Clue for Ashley's song

We’re commanded in Psalm 150 (and lots of other places in Scripture) to praise the Lord. Part of that, I suppose, is also calling, encouraging, and even compelling others outside of our worship environment to join us in honoring our God. Truly, the beauty of worship is found not just in our own adoration of our Lord, but also in seeing another person discover the wonder and joy of that experience!

The clue is in the music (which Living Water says makes it much harder to solve…). For this song, it’s similar to Jesse’s song, although it’s much more difficult to visualize. The reason for this is that you must do the following:

Turn the music sideways, left edge on top.
Look at the first seven measures of the accompaniment (this is best done piecemeal because they’re divided between systems).
Cross your eyes so that the two staves in each system are superimposed. You might want to take this one measure at a time because the view angle considerations make it difficult to maintain the intentional visual defect for long.

(An alternative is to make two copies of the music, put them on top of each other, and hold them up to the light – or you can try transparencies).

Anyway, when you finally do all this, the noteheads will spell “ASHLEY A”…

June 1, 2003: Geri suggested that we could translate a song into Klingon. The main prerequsite be that it not have too many lyrics so that the job would be easier. You’re welcome to take a look at the result, and if you’re a native Klingon speaker, some help in refining the translation is much appreciated!

Praise the Lord together,
He is the Worthy One
He is the unchanging God,
He is the eternal King.
He is the One we must serve,
In His presence we will ever sing!

Sing to the the Lord,
He is worthy of praise,
He is Eternal Father,
The Lord of all days.

He’s the Ruler of the heavens, Creator of the lands,
The One who set the stars in the sky,
He’s the One who knew my being before I was alive,
The Savior on whose grace I rely!

O sing to the Lord,
Give Him praise and honor His name,
He is holy God,
Ever the same.
