Every now and then, God provides the inspiration to write yet another song in a certain style. As a matter of fact, this continues to happen as the LWCP progresses; it seems that each song writes itself to some degree.

It’s especially true of “Rejoice Eternally On Lands Afar” – what else could this be but a missionary hymn in a Fifties-Sixties mode of expression? The chief beauty of this song is found in the words, which are supported firmly by a semi-marching accompaniment which is moderately demanding of the accompanist.

It turns out that the driving force for the style of LWCP 55 is based on the clue itself: “Rejoice Eternally On Lands Afar” is an anagram of “Danielle Jocelyn Santaferraro.” Funny thing, three years before (after finishing I Won’t Mind The Earthly Distress and This Word, ‘Tis Nestled In My Heart) I told myself I’d “never” do an anagrammatic clue again. Okay, so I couldn’t resist…

Rejoice eternally on lands afar,
Ye preachers sent, the Gospel to tell,
Be true to Jesus in the press of war,
And storm the iron gates of hell.
Oh, sing the glories of our God who sent His Son to die,
And on the cross to shed His blood that we might live on high.

Rejoice eternally on lands afar,
Commit yourselves to join the fight,
Let none your testimony curse nor mar,
But live in Jesus’ truth and light,
O sing the victory of our Lord,
The Risen from the grave,
Proclaim the everlasting Word,
That sinful souls He saves.

Rejoice eternally on lands afar,
Persist through persecution and strife,
He is the bright and morning star,
The Source of hope and light and life.
Declare the majesty of our King
Whose reign will never cease,
And join the heavens in worshipping
The God of love,
The God of joy,
The God of peace,
Amen, amen!
