Charlene came to California on a two-year visit with her mom,. who was working in a local office. They came to Valley Church, and soon approached me about Charlene joining Living Water. It took almost no time at all for her to become an integral part of our fellowship and ministry!

Alas, sometimes things have to end. The two years (more or less) were up, and so we had to say our goodbyes to Charlene. She was really looking forward to getting back home, but at the same time would be missing us (okay, I’m selfish – writing this song is another way to make her miss us…).

Of course, through the whole two years thoughts of South Africa were in Charlene’s mind. It’s difficult to feel well-settled in another land when you know you’re returning home soon… and that’s the clue.

Lord, bring my heart home,
Revive my love for You, make my affections new,
Lord, bring my heart home,
Clasp me to Your bosom, for I belong to You –
Bring my heart home.

When I walk alone, when I walk in fear,
When the valley’s dark and I cannot see my way,
Lord, I have known that You are near,
So I put my confidence in You as the potter’s yielding clay.

When I’m poor and weak, when I fail the test,
When my path diverges from the way You’ve planned,
It’s Your help I seek, for You know what’s best,
So with flagging strength I reach to You and You lift me in Your hands.
