John 13:34-35 is the subject text for this song. The subject is love, which also is the meaning of “Amy.” There is a rather obscure clue in the first letters of the first two lines of each verse and the bridge: The first verse’s lines start with A, The second verse’s lines start with M, and the bridge’s lines start with Y. And if that’s not enough, there’s a bit of teasing in the last line of the chorus: “Somewhere, somehow, some way right now…”

This new commandment I give unto you,
Love one another, care for your brother,
Love him as my love is given to you,
Somewhere, somehow, some way right now,
So others may know your are Mine.

A cold day closes in gloom,
A dead world rests from hating and hurting.
And Jesus is in the upper room
With disciples, waiting and comforting.
He teaches a new way of living,
A way that is not taking, but giving.

My Lord gave His life for you,
My Master paid for our transgressions,
To make us able to live anew,
To show His grace and compassion.
By faith, live His new way of living,
The way that is not taking, but giving.

Your faith in Christ must be demonstrated,
Your love for Him must be lived, not just stated.
