Return to Eight-Bell Hymns (General)

Take the Name of Jesus with You (PRECIOUS NAME)

The American nineteenth century saw the creation of many new hymns. Many of them, such as Take the Name of Jesus with You, inspired congregations to good deeds and great works.

Take the name of Jesus with you / Child of sorrow and of woe;
It will joy and comfort give you / Take it then where’er you go.

Precious name, oh how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heav’n;
Precious name, oh how sweet!
Hope of earth and joy of heav’n!

Take the name of Jesus ever / As a shield from ev’ry snare;
When temptations round you gather / Breathe that holy name in prayer.

Oh, the precious name of Jesus! / How it thrills our souls with joy,
When His loving arms receive us / And His songs our tongues employ.

At the name of Jesus bowing / Falling prostrate at His feet,
King of kings in heav’n we’ll crown Him / When our journey is complete.

    My ringers love your arrangements! We have had to get a bit more creative lately in figuring out how to keep ringing. I have three experienced (and determined) ringers, plus myself (though I usually direct) and we started meeting outside for rehearsals. So arrangements for 8 bells are perfect! We call our new group “Handbells on the Porch.” We are finding that a portable recording device works well to pick up the sound outside. We are excited to share new music with our congregation – even as we remain online. Thanks for all your great music!
