Return to Eight-Bell Hymns (General)

O, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus (EBENEZER/TON-Y-BOTEL)

O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus is sung to the hymn tune EBENEZER, which means “stone of help.” Jesus is the Rock of Ages, and our Eternal Rescuer; He is the One to whom we must turn for salvation.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free,
rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love;
leading onward, leading homeward, to Thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, spread His praise from shore to shore!
How He loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore!
How He watcheth o’er His loved ones, died to call them all His own;
how for them He intercedeth, watcheth o’er them from the throne.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus, love of every love the best;
’tis an ocean vast of blessing, ’tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus, ’tis heav’n of heav’ns to me;
and it lifts me up to glory, for it lifts me up to Thee.

    Here in the UK we have now been told to stay home! My duet partner and I are going to practise our new pieces separately and will hope for great things when we are finally allowed to get together!

    Hi Annie!

    We in the USA have been given the same kind of directions. It makes sense, given that we (the world at large) don’t yet understand how to beat Coronavirus. Hopefully, the cure, as well as a vaccine, will arrive quickly!

    It’s wonderful that you and your duet partner are working separately on your music; Carla and I hope you’ll do well at it. And if you haven’t thought it already, there are applications for video calling that might be lag-free enough for you to contact each other to practice together!

    Best wishes, and happy ringing,
    Larry
