Return to Eight-Bell Christmas

Joy to the World (ANTIOCH)

Handel wrote the music for this Christmas carol. The first eight notes form a descending scale, which turns out to be the change ring pattern “Rounds” upside down. So… our eight-bell arrangement contains a bit of English bell ringing tradition in that some of the best-known change ring patterns are included in the score.

Joy to the world! the Lord is come: let earth receive her King.
Let every heart prepare him room, and heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth! the Savior reigns: let all their songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sin and sorrow grow nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make his blessings flow far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove
The glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love.
