Jason has had his challenges in the Christian life. He’s experienced trouble and hard times, plus a fair amount of frustration. Nevertheless, he still wants to be an example to others, and has made a lot of progress in that direction. Make Me To Be True alludes to his struggle.

The clue is found in the text line “and the first of each month, my commitment will be true.” Taking the first letter of each month in the second half of the year yields J-A-S-O-N. It turned out that God anticipated me here because Jason’s middle name is Daniel, matching the first letter of “December.”

The frustrations of this life are hard to bear,
The pains that I experience are daunting,
And though others may be disinclined to comfort, help, or care,
My Lord, I find in You there’s nothing wanting.

So the first of each year, I’ll resolve to follow You,
And the first of each month, my commitment will be true,
And each day and ev’ry hour, I’ll rely upon Your power,
So Your will is shown in everything I do.
So the first way I’ll run is right to where You stand,
And the first way I’ll reach is up to take Your hand,
And I’ll nestle in Your arms, absolutely safe from harm,
You have set Your way before me,
So I’ll trust in You completely,
To light my way and lead me.
Lord, make me to be true.

When I live for You, there are joys beyond perceiving,
To honor You, Lord, is my desire,
And when I follow You, You respond to my believing,
And Your Holy Spirit’s power in me’s a blazing fire.

So teach me to be a faithful servant,
And use me to share You with the lost,
Conform me to Jesus’ precious image,
And lead me in Your way whatever may be the cost.
