Return to Twelve-Bell Christmas

Angels We Have Heard on High – Twelve-Handbell Version

The Christmas carol Angels We Have Heard on High, sung to the French tune GLORIA is one of rejoicing!

Angels we have heard on high,
Sweetly singing o’er the plains
And the mountains in reply,
Echoing their joyous strains.

Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Gloria in excelsis Deo.

Shepherds, why this jubilee?
Why your joyous strains prolong?
What the gladsome tidings be
Which inspire your heavenly song?

Come to Bethlehem and see
Him whose birth the angels sing;
Come, adore on bended knee
Christ the Lord, the new-born King

Les anges dans nos campagnes
ont entonné l’hymne des cieux;
et l’écho de nos montagnes
redit ce chant mélodieux.

Gloria, in excelsis Deo!
Gloria, in excelsis Deo!

Bergers, pour qui cette fête?
Quel est l’objet de tous ces chants?
Quel vainqueur, quelle conquête
mérite ces cris triomphants?

Cherchons tous l’heureux village
que l’a vu naître sous ses toits;
offronslui le tendre hommage
et de nos coeurs et de nos vois!

    Hi Larry! I’m interested in previewing your 12 bell music, but I can’t find a preview button. I admit that I’m not really tech-savvy, so I’m probably overlooking something simple. But, can you help? Thanks! Laura Jen (from Embellish, but interested in easier 12 bell music for my small church group)

    Hi Laura!

    Sorry to say, we don’t provide preview copies of our twelve-bell music; sometime ago, we decided that we’d provide videos or MP3s on the pages for each arrangement (there are preview pages for our music for handbell choirs, however). We figured that the audio/video would be enough to give an idea of how challenging each score is. I would mention that it was a difficult decision to make!

    If it helps, here are some of our easier twelve-bell pieces:

    Still, Still, Still (with piano accompaniment)
    Ah, Holy Jesus
    Beach Spring
    Give Me Jesus
    Morning Has Broken
    My Country, ‘Tis of Thee
    Thou Hidden Source of Calm Repose
    Barcarolle
    Holy is the Lord
    Annie Laurie
    Flow Gently, Sweet Afton
    Shenandoah

    Hope this helps, and happy ringing!
    Larry
