Return to Handbell – Full Choir

Vårvindar friska – Fresh Spring Winds (Handbells, 3-5 octaves, Level 3+)

VÅRVINDAR FRISKA (Fresh Spring Winds) is a pretty Swedish folk tune that more recently has been matched with a hymn text or two, such as “O Living Breath”. Here are the original lyrics for the folk song.

Vårvindar Friska
Vårvindar friska leka och viska
lunderna kring likt älskande par.
Strömmarna ila, finna ej vila
förrän i havet störtvågen far.
Klappa mitt hjärta, klaga och hör,
vallhornets klang bland klipporna dör.
Strömkarlen spelar, sorgerna delar
vakan kring berg och dal.

Hjärtat vill brista! Ack, när den sista
gången jag hörde kärlekens röst:
avskedets plåga, ögonens låga,
mun emot mun och klappande bröst.
Fjälldalen stod i grönskande skrud,
trasten slog drill på drill för sin brud.

The fresh breezes of spring, play and whisper
Groving around like two lovers
Rushing streams, finding no rest
Until thrown into the torrential waves of the sea
Patting my heart, I grumble and hear
The grassland horn’s sound die, among the rocks
The streams are frolicking, The sorrows go away
Mountains and Valleys around us hold watch

The heart wants to burst! Alas, at the last
time I heard the voice of love:
Parting ways is a torment, the eyes are sinking
Mouth meets mouth, and a beating chest
The mountainvalley stood in its green robe
The thrush gave trill after trill for her bride.
