It was fashionable for nineteenth-century (American) composers to publish original works under pseudonyms. Frank Gilmore, therefore, wrote When Johnny Comes Marching Home in 1863 as Louis Lambert. Regardless of what name we attach to the tune, it turns out to be a wonderful piece for eight handbells!
