Laurie and Rusty Sanders commissioned Elysium (3-5 oct. with opt. flute descant) from Susan T. Nelson in 1996; Rusty provided the title. Upon receipt of the original three-octave version, they requested an expansion to five octaves. The 5 oct. version sports a descant line that gives it a different character from the original work. Elysium is suitable for baptisms, weddings, or general, and works well as a massed work for festivals.
