Bass Ringer’s Notebook, Second Edition

Front Cover
The Bass Ringer’s Notebook has been a reference work for bucket slingers since 2007. This second edition provides updated information, new ideas, and illustrations with matching YouTube videos that show how to perform with your bass bells. Topics include:

  • Lifting Bass Bells – Every note played on every handbells starts with a lift. With bass bells, the lift is even more important, because they’re heavier and larger. The Bass Ringer’s Notebook describes about a dozen ways to lift a bass bell, so you should easily find an approach that works for you.
  • Ringing Bass Bells – Ringing a bass bell requires more power than a treble bell, but knowing how to use good physics makes a difference in the results.
  • Damping Bass Bells – There are important details involved in bass damping. The principles are fairly simple, but larger bells make effective damping even more important.
  • Bass Chime Techniques – Bass handchimes add color and depth to our musical art. The Bass Ringer’s Notebook discusses how to work with them.
  • Table Layout – Handbells can be put on the table in any order. Knowing what you can do with that order to make the music more playable is essential.
  • Assignments – There’s more than one way to get to an answer, especially with respect to how you divide your bass bells between your bucket slingers.
  • And more…

In the words of Low Ding Zone, the World’s First Bass-Only Handbell Ensemble, this new volume is “Worth the Weight,” and a vital step in the quest to “Support Low Standards”!

And… if you’d like to play some music where you can apply your bass ringing skills, take a look at our Low Ding Zone repertoire and Solos!

    Hi Marlene,

The easiest way to find out what music is available from Choraegus is to browse our website. Our largest category is handbell music; you can use this link or click on “Ring” on the menubar at the top of each webpage.

On that page, there are links to our subcategories for six handbells, eight handbells, twelve handbells, sixteen handbells, handbell solos, handbell ensembles, handbell choirs, and bass handbell ensembles. In some cases, there are subcategories as well, so that you can see what we have in Christmas music, hymns, classical music, and international tunes.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

    Happy Ringing,
    Larry
