Steamed Rice (Rice cooker)

Makes 6-8 large servings.

  1. Take the cooking bowl out of the rice cooker.
  2. Put 4-5 cups of raw rice into the bowl.
  3. Wash the rice by adding water and “scrubbing” it with your hand. Pour off the water containing the excess starch. Do this twice.
  4. Add water until it’s about an inch (old wives’ method: one finger joint) above the top of the rice.
  5. Put the cooking bowl back in the rice cooker. Close the top and plug it in.
  6. When it beeps, select “White rice”. The cooker should beep again and display a 45-minute countdown.
  7. Turn the rice cooker so the vent is toward the front of the kitchen counter. This will prevent the steam from damaging the cabinets above.
  8. The cooker will beep when the 45 minutes are up.
  9. Use the white plastic spoon to dish the rice out.
