Makes 6-8 large servings.
- Take the cooking bowl out of the rice cooker.
- Put 4-5 cups of raw rice into the bowl.
- Wash the rice by adding water and “scrubbing” it with your hand. Pour off the water containing the excess starch. Do this twice.
- Add water until it’s about an inch (old wives’ method: one finger joint) above the top of the rice.
- Put the cooking bowl back in the rice cooker. Close the top and plug it in.
- When it beeps, select “White rice”. The cooker should beep again and display a 45-minute countdown.
- Turn the rice cooker so the vent is toward the front of the kitchen counter. This will prevent the steam from damaging the cabinets above.
- The cooker will beep when the 45 minutes are up.
- Use the white plastic spoon to dish the rice out.
