Dedicated to Laurie Thurston
This song attempts to capture Laurie’s gentle and sweet personality in musical form. It expresses a confidence in God which is above the stresses of life. Overall, the theme of victory – the meaning of “Laurie” – is expressed throughout the text.
The original intention was to create a Scottish highlands feel to the music. However, the accompaniment for the first performance of “Quiet Victory” was Steve Loomis on soprano recorder, Kristen Loomis on hammer dulcimer, and Dave Hockenberry on guitar. This instrumental combination revealed a new twist to the song: It easily converts to a Renaissance-era style.
The good Lord ever tends His flock, I know He cares for me.
He’s my Redeemer and my Rock, who gives me victory.
And though the world is full of fear, I know I’m safe with Him,
The peace of God will keep my heart and mind with Him within.
Chorus: And I’ll worship – Oh, I’ll worship,
I’ll worship the Lord most high,
So I’ll praise Him – Oh, I’ll praise Him,
I’ll praise the Lord most high.
He works with wind and strives in storm, He shows His hand of might,
His presence keeps me safe from harm and fills my path with light.
His perfect grace surrounds my soul; He bids me sing and shout,
And I could never live my life at all with Him without.
His graciousness is ever sure, His comfort ever true,
His faithfulness touches every day, His mercies ever new.
And when my heart is stayed on Him, I know I’ll never fall,
The quiet vict’ry that He gives is found with Him withal.
