"SCHMEE!" stands for "Sadomasochistic Chime/Handbell Maniacal Ensemble Extravaganza". It was an answer to the "question of the week" on the Handbell Community (hbpcommunity.ning.com) "Think outside the box: What new handbell event would you want to attend?"
The answer to that seminal question has led to chatroom terminology, a Facebook group, and any number of other adventures. SCHMEEites seem to crawl out of the woodwork when the idea is mentioned - is it that we're all, at heart, desirous of being wilder and crazier than our directors normally allow? Vive la SCHMEE!
Of course, the concept of SCHMEE! originally was intended more humorously than anything else, but we thought it would tremendous fun to give our "Bronze Ensemble" sub-event a little more than the usual amount of twistedness. So we decided to call it that, knowing full well it would be a strange and fun experience. This is your chance not only to partake in the insanity, but to add to it.
We'll be rehearsing for three hours the Friday before Spring Ring and one hour on Saturday before the Spring Ring starts, and will prepare one or two pieces for the final concert. Both pieces will be at least AGEHR Level 4. If you register for SCHMEE! by March 1 we'll send your assignment to you by email or phone before the event so they can prepare. If you register for SCHMEE! after March 1, then we'll get your assignment to you as soon as possible after receiving your registration.

The fun part of such an event is the opportunity to ring and socialize with other bell fanatics! If you need to spend the night in the area, some of the locals may even have an extra bed available. Of course, there are lots of motels available, as well as fine eating establishments.
There are no classes for SCHMEE! Just ringing, maniacal ringing, insane ringing with eldritch cackles, fun! Fill out the form, send it with your check, wait for confirmation, show up, and enjoy.
