In 2008 our director will be DOUG BENTON, bass bell guru and captain of the Bayview “Pits.” Known also as a composer/arranger, organist, writer, Bellmaster at No. Arizona U, and current director of Music Ministries at Gold Canyon UMC near Phoenix, Doug brings a wealth of musical background to his directing.
Doug has selected his arrangement of: Blue Rondo a la Turk (Beckenhorst Press HB77) and Michael Helman’s Nocturne in C Minor (AGEHR 35120) for the Intense Ring program. Rehearsals will begin Friday night at 7 p.m.
The SPRING RING will feature Doug’s directing plus numerous workshops on bass bells, composing with Finale, bell basics, solo and ensemble ringing, rhythm change ringing and much more. Staff includes: Doug Benton, Kathleen Mackie, Michele Sharik, Larry Sue, David and Dian Ruder at this time. There will be a handbell store, massed ringing, opportunities for solo choirs, a final concert and a good time with other bell ringers.
Although there are four pieces on the repertoire list, bell teams and individuals may pick and choose those pieces they wish to prepare and perform at the final concert. Less experienced groups may wish to drop the more challenging work(s) and more advanced groups might skip the easier piece.
