For once I write a Palm Sunday song! The open fifths are reminiscent of trumpets, the triple meter pulse has the feel of a coronation procession, and the irregular meter (to me) expresses the near-random shouts of the crowd.

The clue's a little strange, perhaps, but it's what led to the rhythmic structure of the chorus. "Alexander", "Van", "Den", and "Broeke" respectively have nine, three, three, and six letters... so the four-measure blocks in the chorus have time signatures of 9/8, 3/8, 3/8, and 6/8!
