Rejoice! For Our Savior Has Come
Living Water Composition Project No. 83
Dedicated to Alex Van Den Broeke
Released: 8/6/2001
For once I write a Palm Sunday song! The open fifths are
reminiscent of trumpets, the triple meter pulse has the feel of a
coronation procession, and the irregular meter (to me) expresses the
near-random shouts of the crowd.
The clue's a little strange, perhaps, but it's what led to the
rhythmic structure of the chorus. "Alexander", "Van", "Den", and
"Broeke" respectively have nine, three, three, and six letters... so
the four-measure blocks in the chorus have time signatures of 9/8,
3/8, 3/8, and 6/8!
Chorus: Rejoice! for our Savior has come!
Rejoice! for deliv'rance is here!
Rejoice! for the King has arrived!
Bow before Him, and worship the Lord who has given us life anew!
Wave your palms before our Lord,
Worship, worship the King!
Honor Him with joy evermore,
Worship the King!
For Jesus is riding before us,
The Son of God on a foal,
He comes to rule the nations,
He comes to make us whole!
Chorus
To the Lord your hearts now raise,
Worship, worship the King!
Trust His promise of a new day,
Worship the King!
For Jesus is claiming the kingdom,
Our hearts, our minds, and our souls,
He has brought salvation,
He alone we extol!
Chorus
Worship the King! Worship! Worship!
Worship the King! Worship! Worship!
Worship the King!
