Being at Valley Church carries the privilege and blessing of being
able to tie into an unusual level of musical resources. In
particular, God has blessed us with a tremendous number of brass
instrumentalists in our music ministry. For instance, we have had, at
one time, as many as six trumpets, three French horns, three
trombones, two baritone horns, one sousaphone, plus two people able
to double on flugelhorn. Such an instrumental contingent allows for
some very unusual and very special choral pieces, and the Lord has
granted this song to be used very effectively by
Living Water
The clue is in the introductory baritone horn solo. At the time
"Walk Beside Me" was written, Alison was one of only two members who
had played baritone at one time or another (the other was David Tom,
who graduated in one of the pre-LWCP years). Funny thing, though: she
was the first one to see the score, and noticed the part marked
"Baritone" in the first measure, but didn't come to the conclusion
that it was her song - could she have been thinking it was a
vocal baritone solo?
