Being at Valley Church carries the privilege and blessing of being able to tie into an unusual level of musical resources. In particular, God has blessed us with a tremendous number of brass instrumentalists in our music ministry. For instance, we have had, at one time, as many as six trumpets, three French horns, three trombones, two baritone horns, one sousaphone, plus two people able to double on flugelhorn. Such an instrumental contingent allows for some very unusual and very special choral pieces, and the Lord has granted this song to be used very effectively by Living Water

The clue is in the introductory baritone horn solo. At the time "Walk Beside Me" was written, Alison was one of only two members who had played baritone at one time or another (the other was David Tom, who graduated in one of the pre-LWCP years). Funny thing, though: she was the first one to see the score, and noticed the part marked "Baritone" in the first measure, but didn't come to the conclusion that it was her song - could she have been thinking it was a vocal baritone solo?

This song is featured on the recording of the Living Water 15-Year Reunion Concert available (exclusively!) from Choraegus ShareMusic for $10.00 per CD, plus $3.00 shipping and handling.

Hello, my friend, how are you?
Have you waited long for me?
Let's take this path together and view a special tree,
It has no branches, twigs, or leaves,
Yet in the ground it stands,
And on its trunk there hangs and bleeds a man with nailed hands.
Chorus: Come and walk beside me, meet my Savor face to face,
Hear the story of His love and sacrificial grace,
Trust Him for the everlasting life He can provide,
And we will walk together, from now until forever,
We will walk together each secure by Jesus' side.
And so, my friend, think about
the gift He offers men,
A rescue from the judgment, and living without end,
He gave His life to set you free,
To make your spirit whole,
The resurrected Lord would be the Savior of your soul.
Chorus
Where is your security?
Is it in the transient things of earth?
Come, receive eternity,
Take God's gift of second birth.
Chorus
