The ComingDedicated to Phil Nemec
Released: 3/20/1991
God anticipated me in this song in the same sort of way He did
with "Make Me To Be
True". The original clue was to allude to the meaning of "Philip"
- lover of horses, and I figured that it would take awhile for
Living Water to solve it. But less than twenty seconds after it was
distributed, Cayley pegged it because Phil owned a white
horse.
Technically, this is an extremely demanding song because of the
severity of the vocal parts; They hang out on G's and A's for what
seems to be forever (we subsequently discovered that "The Coming"
works much more smoothly a whole step lower than the written score,
which is an easy trick to engineer with MIDI accompaniment and a
transposable keyboard). Nevertheless, I think it draws a proper
picture of the Second Coming of Christ and points to the grandeur of
that event.
And heaven was opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war! His eyes are flame of fire, and upon His head are many crowns, and He has a name that no one knows but He Himself! And He wears a robe that is dipped in blood, and His name is the Word of God. And the armies of heaven which follow Him are mounted on horses. They are white, they are clean, they are saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. And they wear no armor, nor carry swords, for their battle is fought and their vict'ry is secure! And from His mouth comes a sharp sword, that with it He may smite the nations and conquer them, and rule them with a rod of iron. He treads the winepress of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty, that judgment be on those who deny Him!
He is King of King and Lord of Lords evermore.
Amen!
